Vet checks for the UP 200 and Midnight Run took place on Friday, February 16 at the Riverside Auto parking lot in Marquette, Michigan. All dogs running in either race receive a pre-race exam by race veterinarians.
The start of the UP 200 & Midnight Run in downtown Marquette, Michigan is a must-see event. The race starts in front of the races main sponsor, The Mining Journal on Washington Street. Before the race, mushers get their teams ready for the race. The teams run all night for both races.
The UP 200 started around 7:00 PM on Washington Street, in Marquette, Michigan. The street was closed and covered with snow by the city for the race. The shoot was packed with spectators and the weather was around 20F. This was a great start to the race!
The Midnight Run started around 8:30 PM, after the UP200 Mushers took off. The starting line was on Washington Street, in Marquette, Michigan. The Jack Pine 30 started around 10:00 AM in Gwinn, Michigan. The vet checks and starting line were full of activity while 14 teams got ready for their race.
The winners of the 2018 Jack Pine 20 race were (1st) Jerry Trudell, (2nd) Susan Serafina, and (3rd) Linda Thompson. All 14 mushers who started the race finished.
The UP 200 finished on Sunday, February 18, 2018 in Marquette's Lower Harbor Park. The 1st place winner was Keith Aili, Denis Tremblay arrived in 2nd, and Martin Massicotte placed 3rd.
